About the Item

Rare figurative stoneware sculptured vessel by British studio ceramicist Marylyn Hyde, circa 1970s-1980s. Depicting a female mythological figure — possibly Venus or Medusa, rendered in low relief, the work reflects Hyde's recurring exploration of feminine archetypes and myth. Hand-built in dense stoneware and finished in a textured matte glaze. The work has subtle mineral tones of green, ochre, and charcoal, which further enhances her sculptural modelling and symbolic presence. Executed with Hyde's characteristic tonal restraint and emphasis on myth, spirit, and form, bridging ceramic art and fine-art sculpture within the post-war British Studio Pottery movement. She is in very good vintage condition with age-related wear and firing irregularities consistent with studio pottery. Please see images for a small fleabite to rim. No major losses observed.
