About the Item

This rare 1934 vase is a masterful example from Arte Vetraria Muranese (AVeM), a celebrated glassworks founded in 1932 by master glassblowers Antonio Luigi Ferro, his sons Egidio and Ottone, along with Emilio Nason and Galliano Ferro. Emerging from the liquidation of Successori Andrea Rioda in 1931, AVEM quickly gained acclaim for its innovative glass techniques and modernist forms. From its earliest days, AVEM dedicated itself to experimentation—exposed at the Venice Biennale from the outset—and became known, especially from the 1940s onward, for its thick-pulegoso glass and bold material explorations. Under the technical direction of Giulio Radi (from 1939), the firm explored reactions of metal oxides and layering techniques, including gold and silver foil applications, paired with simplified, modernist silhouettes. This elegant vase exemplifies AVEM’s early experimentation. The pale celadon hue—tinted with iridescent sheen—reveals a rich, bubbly texture intrinsic to the pulegoso process. Its flared form is graced by sculptural half-circle handles, projecting a refined, ceremonial presence. A superb representation of interwar Murano artistry, this vase would form a striking focal point in a curated interior or glass collection. It will be double-boxed and meticulously packed for safe arrival.
