About the Item

A striking vintage art glass vase by the renowned California studio Orient & Flume, signed and dated 1982. Elegant in both form and decoration, the vase features a tall, tapering trumpet silhouette rising from a rounded foot, its graceful profile providing the perfect canvas for one of the studio's most celebrated decorative motifs: the Peacock Feather. Hand-blown in richly iridescent cobalt blue glass, the surface displays delicately combed and pulled feather-like patterns that radiate upward from the base, creating the illusion of shimmering peacock plumage. The luminous iridescence shifts beautifully between deep sapphire, violet, teal, and emerald green as the light moves across the surface, a hallmark of Orient & Flume's mastery of metallic oxide finishes and iridescent studio glass. The subtle white pulled lines accentuate the elegant vertical composition, while the softly opalescent interior provides a striking visual contrast. Founded in Chico, California, in 1972, Orient & Flume quickly became one of America's most respected studio glass workshops, celebrated for combining traditional Venetian glassblowing techniques with innovative contemporary design. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, the studio produced some of its most iconic iridescent works, with the Peacock Feather series becoming one of its most recognizable and enduring designs. Beautifully balanced between sculpture and functional design, this vase is equally impressive displayed as a standalone work of art or with a single stem, making it an exceptional addition to any collection of American Studio Glass.
