About the Item

Royal Crown Derby Aesthetic Movement Gilt Potpourri Vase with Pierced Lid, Dated 1892 Dimensions: 10.5" H x 5.5" Dia A refined example of late Victorian porcelain, this lidded potpourri vase was produced by Royal Crown Derby in 1892, during the height of the Aesthetic Movement. Crafted from fine ivory-toned bone china, the baluster form is exquisitely hand-decorated with raised and gilded botanical motifs inspired by Japanese design. The delicate branches, leaves, and blossoms meander across the surface in asymmetric balance, framed by a gilt trellis border at the base and vertical gilt fluting at the neck. The original domed lid is pierced in a latticework pattern and finished with a gilded finial, designed to allow fragrant potpourri to diffuse gently into the room. This elegant and functional design was a staple of fashionable Victorian interiors. The base bears the red Royal Crown Derby mark with a crown above intertwined Ds, and a single dot beneath—confirming a production date of 1892. Additional hand-painted model or pattern numbers appear along the foot rim. In excellent antique condition with minimal wear to the gilding, this piece is both a collector's item and a decorative accent of timeless sophistication.
