About the Item

Original bright white bisque porcelain vase with linear groove pattern designed by Sami Wirkkala in the 1980s for Rosethal Stuio-Line, Germany. Born into a legendary Finnish design family, Sami Wirkkala (b. 1948) is a modernist interior architect and designer known for his clean geometric forms and minimalist Nordic aesthetic. The son of design icons Tapio Wirkkala and Rut Bryk, he spent three decades working within his family’s design studio. Wirkkala is highly regarded by collectors for his 1970s and 1980s collaborations with Germany's Rosenthal Studio-Line, where he created sculptural, origami-like porcelain objects such as the iconic "Model 3708" vase series. His multidisciplinary career also includes prominent architectural projects, most notably co-designing the interior for the Siida Saami National Museum in Finland.
