About the Item

Signed This vase by Erik Höglund for Strömbergshyttan reflects the expressive studio glass production that defined the later part of his career. The cylindrical form combines opaque white glass with a darker smoky lower section and an applied ruby-red medallion featuring one of Höglund’s characteristic face motifs. This detail became one of his most recognisable artistic signatures. The thick-walled glass and softly irregular shape emphasise the handmade process behind the work. Rather than striving for perfect symmetry, Höglund embraced subtle variations in form, colour and texture, allowing each vase to retain an individual identity. Produced as part of a limited edition of only 35 examples, this vase is numbered 4/35, further underscoring its studio-made character. Erik Höglund (1932–1998) was one of the most influential figures in Swedish art glass during the second half of the twentieth century. His work challenged the refined perfection traditionally associated with Scandinavian glass, instead introducing heavier forms, trapped air bubbles, asymmetry and recurring figurative motifs inspired by folk art and archaic imagery.
