About the Item

This classic Scandinavian Modern Vase is from the Argenta series designed by Wilhelm Kåge for Gustavsberg. A beautiful example of Swedish Grace and Mid-Century design, the elegant tall vase is decorated in silver overlay with a checkered pattern to each side. Marked to base, Gustavsberg, Argenta, A20, Made in Sweden. The iconic Swedish modern designer Wilhelm Kåge (1889-1960) is perhaps best known for his work as artistic director of the Gustavsberg Porcelain Factory from 1917-1948. Kåge introduced the Argenta Series in the 1920s, and it would later win widespread acclaim after being promoted in the Stockholm Exhibition of 1930. The Argenta Series was the epitome of Scandinavian Modern Design as well as the Swedish Grace movement. The series encompassed a elegant and modern line of decorative objects with a mottled green glazed flint, and later stoneware, body that were decorated with wonderfully distinctive and stylized Art Deco motifs in fine silver overlay.

An elegant and architecturally refined Argenta vase designed by Wilhelm Kåge for Gustavsberg, Sweden, dating to the 1930s. This sculptural piece exemplifies the timeless sophistication of Scandinavian Modern design, combining restrained form with rich surface detail. The vase features a tall, tapering cylindrical body resting on four subtle feet, giving it a distinctive, almost columnar presence. The underside bears the Gustavsberg Argenta mark along with model number, confirming authenticity. Wilhelm Kåge’s Argenta...
