About the Item

Large Art Glass Vase by Kralik, Bohemia, circa 1920. A large and impressive art glass vase by Kralik, produced in Bohemia around 1920. The vase is crafted in blown double-layer glass, featuring a striking iridescent outer layer that displays luminous color shifts depending on the light. The elegant elongated form and subtle surface movement are characteristic of Bohemian glassmaking at the transition from late Art Nouveau to early Art Deco aesthetics. The piece remains in original condition, with visible characteristics from the making process, including small inclusions and irregularities inherent to hand-blown glass, which attest to its authenticity and artisanal production. Origin: Bohemia (present-day Czech Republic) Manufacturer: Kralik Period: Circa 1920 Material: Blown double-layer art glass Finish: Iridescent outer layer Height: 16.1 in. (41 cm) Diameter: 6.7 in. (17 cm) Condition: Original condition, with minor production irregularities consistent with hand-blown glass The Kralik glassworks was one of the most important Bohemian glass manufacturers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Founded in the mid-19th century, the firm reached international acclaim for its innovative art glass, particularly during the Art Nouveau period, producing highly decorative pieces with applied trails, organic forms, vibrant colors, and iridescent finishes inspired by nature. Around 1910–1925, Kralik evolved its designs toward more restrained forms and surface effects, anticipating the emerging Art Deco movement while maintaining exceptional technical sophistication. The company became especially known for its mastery of iridescent and layered glass, competing with leading European and Austrian workshops of the time. Today, Kralik glass is highly regarded by collectors for its bold experimentation, luminous surfaces, and its significant role in the history of Bohemian art glass.
