Bamboo Bottle Holder in the Style of Louis Sognot, France, 1950s A refined example of French Mid-Century Modern design, this bamboo and rattan bottle holder, created in the style of Louis Sognot, perfectly illustrates the elegant simplicity that defined French decorative arts during the 1950s. Designed to accommodate three bottles, it combines practicality with sculptural beauty through its graceful curved silhouette and expertly handcrafted natural materials. Measuring 38 cm high, 32 cm wide, and 15.5 cm deep (15 × 12.6 × 6.1 in.), it remains in very good condition, preserving the warm patina and timeless character of mid-century French craftsmanship. Louis Sognot (1892–1970) ranks among the most influential French designers of the twentieth century. After studying at the École Bernard Palissy, he became artistic director of Primavera, the celebrated design studio of the Paris department store Printemps, where he helped shape the evolution of French Art Deco. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, he embraced modernism while rejecting its austere functionalism, developing furniture that balanced innovation, comfort, and refined craftsmanship. A founding member of the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM), Sognot collaborated with leading architects and designers, experimented with tubular metal, duralumin, plastics, and exotic woods, and created interiors for prestigious residences, ocean liners, and the famous Manik Bagh Palace in India. Following World War II, Sognot became France's foremost specialist in rattan furniture, producing elegant, lightweight designs that combined organic materials with modern forms. His work, often created in collaboration with renowned lighting designer Serge Mouille, remains highly sought after by collectors for its sophisticated balance of craftsmanship, innovation, and enduring functionality. Ideal for both vintage and contemporary interiors, this French bamboo bottle holder embodies the relaxed elegance of Louis Sognot's celebrated aesthetic, making it a distinctive addition to any Mid-Century Modern, French Modern, or organic modern collection
