About the Item

A Georges Briard Memphasis plastic-lacquer ice bucket in the Sunburst pattern, along with the corresponding coaster set, inspired by the Memphis Art Movement, produced in Japan, 1985. Georges Briard’s pieces from his Memphis period are sought after by collectors of Mid-Century Pop Art-style home decor. These pieces featured bold geometric shapes, vibrant color combinations, and playful patterns. A bright red square shaped bucket with a turquoise lid is decorated with knobs and handles in yellow, red, and black. A turquoise sun with a yellow knob center on the front lower left corner of the bucket, and with yellow side handles. The turquoise coasters are held in a red holder of similar design. Seven coasters for six glasses and a bottle. There is a removable white plastic liner. Briard was inspired by the Memphis Group Art Movement, a design collective founded in Milan by Ettore Sottsass in 1981. The movement was known for a playful, pop-art inspired style using bold colors, geometric shapes, and kitschy patterns made of plastic laminates. The movement had a major impact, influencing pop culture, fashion, architecture. Bucket: 9.5 inches long from handle to handle x 7.25 inches wide x 9 inches high including the top knob. Coaster holder: 4.5 inches square x 2.25 inches high. With the original labels on the bottom: Designed and Signed by Georges Briard, Some light surface wear as shown.
