About the Item

An Extremely Rare Engine Turned Jug and Sugar Bowl Made in London in 1864 by Robert Garrard. The Jug and Bowl both stand on a circular spreading foot and the circular main body rises to a hooded rim. The Bowl displays two angular handles and the jug an identical side handle and "sparrow beak" pouring spout. Both have gilded interiors, a vacant oval cartouche and a crisp set of marks on the foot. The quality of design and production is exceptional, as is the weight, however this is no surprise when the maker is considered. Robert Garrard was appointed Jeweller and Royal silversmith by Queen Victoria and his status is denoted by a crown above his maker's mark. Both pieces are in excellent condition with a very good weight. Additional information: Height of the bowl: 2.2 inches, 5.5 cm. Length of the bowl, handle to handle: 5.5 inches, 13.75 cm. Height of the jug, to the top of the handle: 2.2 inches, 5.5 cm. Length of the Jug, handle to spout: 4.75 inches, 11.88 cm.
