About the Item

A 12 piece Italian ceramic mug and pitcher set by C.A.S. Vietri, produced in Vietri sul Mare during the 1970s. The set includes twelve mugs and one matching pitcher, all finished in a heavily textured volcanic “fat lava” glaze. Each piece features cratered surfaces and thick sculptural forms with layered tones of cream, mauve, charcoal, and deep brown throughout. The exaggerated handles and organic silhouettes give the set a distinctly brutalist presence while maintaining the handmade quality associated with Italian studio pottery from the period. Produced in Vietri sul Mare on the Amalfi Coast, a region long associated with expressive ceramic production and hand glazed pottery. The surfaces show natural variation throughout, with differences in glaze movement, texture, and coloration from piece to piece. Chipping is present throughout multiple mugs and the pitcher, primarily along rims and bases.
