About the Item

19th century Italian Majolica dish with Renaissance figures Superb highly decorated Italian Majolica plate with hand a hand painted scene of Roman mythology; The abduction of Sabine women. The border shows Classic Renaissance figures such as Putti. The back of the plate shows a broken section that has been professionally repaired. Its very difficult to find this looking at the front of the plate. Please see the images of the back that show faint traces of the past repair. This does not affect the overall presentation of the plate. When depicting historical and mythical scenes, these works were known as Istoriato wares. Dimensions 11.5" diameter x 2" high. Good antique condition with past repair.
