About the Item

This rectangular grocers display slab was used before refrigeration to keep food cool on display such as butter and margarine. Along the outer edge of the slab as an under-glaze black transfer is beautifully displaying the word ‘Margarine’. With makers mark to base ‘Parnall & Sons Ltd, Parnall House, West Smithfield, London Green E.C.1. Works Fishponds Bristol. Slight staining to top with no restorations. English, circa 1910.
