About the Item

Scheurich's Koralle pattern represents West German ceramics at their most tactile, employing deep relief molding to create dimensional surface interest. Model 488-45 utilizes press-molded production methods that allowed for consistent replication of complex organic patterns across large-scale forms. The repeating oval motifs derive from coral and cellular structures, reflecting 1960s fascination with biomorphic design translated through industrial pottery techniques. Scheurich Keramik, founded 1928 in Kleinheubach, emerged as one of West Germany's largest ceramic manufacturers during the postwar period. Production peaked between 1950-1980 when the factory employed over 1,000 workers producing both commercial and art pottery lines. The Koralle series utilized multi-stage glazing where base colors were applied before relief details received contrasting darker glazes, creating depth through color stratification rather than surface painting. Vase shows wear consistent with age and use. Marked '488-45' on bottom.
