About the Item

Maker: Keramika Kletnice This pair of decorative ceramic humidifiers dates back to the 1970s and is the work of the well-known Moravian workshop Keramika Kletnice. These humidifiers, commonly placed on central heating radiators at the time, combine purely practical function with a distinct aesthetic characterized by a shift from smooth lines to rougher, more plastic forms. Their style sits at the intersection of the late Brussels style and the emerging Brutalism, which emphasized raw materials and bold textures in interior design of that era. The shape of the humidifiers consists of a simple, highly functional prism, with its entire front side covered in a rich, three-dimensional relief. The surface is composed of a combination of white glaze and raised decorative elements, accentuated with brown coloring, which together create the impression of an organic, almost natural structure reminiscent of tree bark or weathered rock. The operating principle was simple: by filling the cavity inside the container, moisture was released into the interior due to heat from the radiator, ensuring a more natural microclimate in apartments of that time. Today, these items rank among sought-after collector's rarities, as they are increasingly difficult to find in their original, undamaged condition. The offered pair is in perfect condition without any signs of wear or chips, making it an exclusive addition to any collection of Czechoslovak ceramics.
