About the Item

Phil Rogers' specialities were salt glaze and reduced stoneware. He used local minerals and wood ash for his glazes. He had travelled the world giving demonstrations, lectures and workshops, and was a popular author on ceramics. His work has been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum; the National Museum of Wales; Newport Museum; Buckinghamshire Museum; the City Museum, Stoke-on-Trent; the Princesshof Museum, Netherlands; The Museum of Ceramic Art in Mashiko Japan; the Boston Museum of Fine Art USA; and the Keramic Museum, Hohr Grentzhauzen, Germany. This plate is a great example of his use of salt in his work, which gives the piece atmospheric qualities. This could be used as a functional piece or decorative. The stamp is clean and precise on the foot, making for a great collector's piece.
