About the Item

This is a fine English, hand blown Firing drinking glass, the bowl all hand engraved with two Jacobite five petal roses, made from lead glass in the 18th century, circa 1785. Short, heavy, thick stemmed glasses like this with a thick foot are known as firing glasses, as they were used for toasts at people gatherings. The glass has a good drawn trumpet bowl hand engraved with two Jacobite five petal roses, among leaves and grape vines around the top half of the bowl. The drawn bowl has a thick, facet cut stem leading to a heavy, wide, conical thick foot, having a snapped off pontil to its underside. Dimensions: Height 4.19, rim diameter 2.38, foot diameter 2.75 inches Condition: Overall very good condition. No damage. This glass has a small grit / slag inclusion within the foot and a very short blowing line to the underside, probably from a burst air bubble. Jacobite Drinking Glasses Jacobite glasses have a political significance. They were Produced for supporters of the exiled Stuart dynasty during the late 18th century, used for secret toasting rituals and engraved with a various symbols, the most used symbol being the Rose.

This is a very good hand-blown, English, mid-Georgian, Wine drinking glass with a round funnel (RF) engraved bowl on a solid stem, dating to the middle of the 18th century, circa 1760. These glasses are very collectable. It is made from English lead glass which is relatively heavy and has a soft grey colour. The RF (round funnel) bowl is well engraved with OXO under rim and a facet cut bowl base, sitting on a a solid stem, over a conical foot with a snapped off pontil below to the underside. This is a very good hand-blown, English, Georgian, wine drinking glass with a facet cut stem, dating from the 18th century, circa 1785. These glasses are very collectable. It is made from English lead glass which is relatively heavy and has a soft grey colour. The glass has the usual striations, inclusions and tiny bubbles you would expect to see in 18th century glass, which gives these glasses their unique charm. The glass has a round funnel bowl which sits on a good facet hand cut stem which extend into the base of the bowl, the stem having a central knop. The stem leads to a conical foot having a snapped off pontil mark to the underside, which has been ground smooth. There are no chips, cracks or any evidence of restoration. This is a very good English "RUMMER" drinking glass, which were originally drinking glasses used in English taverns in the late 18th and early 19th century. The glass is handblown and made from lead glass, having a soft greyish colour. It has an ovoid bowl, well engraved with a band of swags and tails on a short wrythen stem, sitting on a conical foot, having a snapped off pontil below.
