Set of Six Antique French Sarreguemines Majolica Fruit Plates, 1890

Set of Six Antique French Sarreguemines Majolica Fruit Plates, 1890

Located in Coral Gables, FL

An exceptional set of six antique French majolica fruit plates produced by Sarreguemines during the Belle Époque, one of the most celebrated periods in the history of French decorative arts. Each plate features a distinct fruit composition rendered in high relief, including strawberries, grapes, peaches, pears and other orchard fruits, emerging from richly modeled foliage that creates a remarkable sense of depth and movement across the surface. The hand-applied glazes display the warm ochre, green and burgundy tones characteristic of late nineteenth-century French majolica, while the finely detailed modeling reflects the technical sophistication for which the Sarreguemines workshops became internationally renowned. Founded in Lorraine in the eighteenth century, Sarreguemines played a central role in the development of French faience and majolica...

Antique Saint-Clément Majolica Fruit Dessert Service

Antique Saint-Clément Majolica Fruit Dessert Service

By Saint-Clément

Located in LA CIOTAT, FR

This delightful set of French majolica tableware was produced by the celebrated Saint-Clément faience manufactory during the late 19th-century. The set comprises five dessert plates and a matching serving platter, all richly decorated in relief with an abundance of fruit and foliage inspired by nature. Each dessert plate features clusters of ripe peaches framed by finely molded leaves, while the larger serving platter displays an attractive arrangement of peaches, strawberries, cherries, grapes, and flowering branches. The soft palette of creamy whites, greens, pinks, and golden yellows is enhanced by a lustrous glaze, creating the vibrant and highly decorative appearance that made French barbotine ceramics so popular during the Victorian era. Founded in Lorraine in the 18th-century, the Saint-Clément manufactory became particularly renowned for its majolica wares, producing richly modeled pieces inspired by fruits, vegetables, flowers, and natural forms. These charming creations remain highly sought after today by collectors of French faience and majolica...
