A Large Dutch Etched Crystal Vase 19th Century A superb example of 19th-century Dutch glass craftsmanship, this large crystal vase is richly decorated with finely etched scenes and motifs. The surface is encircled by delicately executed imagery including a sailing ship, a cathedral, and foliate ornamentation of leaves and branches. The detailed engraving reflects the high technical and artistic standards of glass workshops active in the Netherlands during the 19th century, when elaborate etching and wheel engraving on crystal were at the height of popularity. The vase’s clarity and brilliance, combined with the skill of its decorative etching, demonstrate the influence of both Dutch maritime culture and the Romantic aesthetic of the period.
