About the Item

Rare and unique set of 6 handmade Murano glass and a jug in deep amber fume color. The beauty of this set is the rigadin ritorto pattern applied to the body of the tumblers and pitcher. The fumè color ties magnificently to the Mustard Yellow toned bead. The fume color is a traditional Murano glass-making technique that is difficult to achieve today. It is created by reducing the oxygen input to the furnace, which creates a smoky atmosphere that gives the glass a deep amber color. The slight variations in color from piece to piece add to the uniqueness of this set. Thin glass, incredible master working. Extremely light. Egg skin thickness. Very elegant and incredible to touch and weight. A perfect unique present or a self-gift. Many features are making this set unique, first is the rigadin. It's relieved on the external part, this means that the shaping is done not pushing the glass inside an hexagonal mould but stretched from the inside with a blade mould. The Mustard yellow rim on the top witness a real expert maestro as the rim is clean and it does not interfere with the waving of the end of the rims. The color of the body is made in fume color. This design is commonly attribuited to Carlo Scarpa, however after researching on catalogs I found that this glass shape is found first on Venini production under Zecchin supervision. It had an inner pinnacle. Under Carlo Scarpa the pinnacle was reduced. It was sldo made by other makers like Barovier and Salviati. Unknown maker. I'm attributing to Salviati prodution of the 60s because of the use of rigadin, see reference. Reference: Vetri dal Museo Salviati, pf 112 and 113 Skira Editore.
