About the Item

Rometti Italy midcentury porcelain breadstick holster server platter. Hand painted figurative scene in orange and cream inside, green marbled exterior, swooping metal handle with yellow dot feet. Scale of figures and handle relative to central holster, gentle lifted angle of lipstick shaped center along with juxtaposition of green and orange are a testament to the artist’s mastery of the aesthetic of modernism in 1950s, Italy which, relative to its more austere, and in some cases antiseptic American modern counterpart, retained a foundation of expressiveness, whimsy and warmth that would serve to inspire Italian Postmodern masterpieces of the 1970s and 1980s.
