About the Item

A rare and exquisite silhouette cabinet cup and saucer made by Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (KPM) Berlin, circa 1800. This neoclassical cylindrical cup is richly decorated with a cobalt blue ground and adorned with intricate hand-painted gilding featuring anthemion and trellis motifs. The highlight is a finely rendered female profile silhouette framed in a gilt medallion — a highly fashionable portrait style around 1800, celebrating sentimental and commemorative traditions. The matching saucer bears the same elegant cobalt blue and gold decoration, with a central monogram “T M” in fine script, suggesting the set was a personalized commission, possibly a gift or commemorative piece. The architectural handle of the cup is angular and highlighted in gold, typical of early 19th-century Berlin porcelain design. Both cup and saucer are marked underneath with the underglaze blue sceptre mark of KPM. The painting style, decoration, and form all align with the highest standards of early 19th-century German porcelain artistry. A museum-quality collector’s piece — rare to find in such superb condition. Ideal for collectors of silhouette portraiture, German neoclassical porcelain, or rare KPM items.
