About the Item

Royal Copenhagen Blue Fluted Plain dish, 1930s. Rare dish in Blue Fluted Plain, made in a multi-lobed form with gently scalloped rim and decorated with hand-painted cobalt blue underglaze. The dish features the classic fluted decoration arranged in segmented panels, characteristic of more elaborate serving pieces from the interwar period. Origin: Denmark. Manufacturer: Royal Copenhagen. Pattern: Blue Fluted Plain. Material: Porcelain. Model: 1/142. Dimensions: H. 5 cm, D. 21 cm. Period: 1930s. Condition: First quality. Small chip to the rim; otherwise good, age-consistent condition. See photo. Blue Fluted Plain was introduced in 1775 and is Royal Copenhagen’s oldest and most enduring pattern. Rooted in Chinese blue-and-white porcelain, the decoration is defined by its precise structure, rhythmic brushwork and refined hand-painted detailing. More complex serving forms such as this model were produced in smaller numbers and are today considered relatively rare, particularly examples from the early 20th century.
