About the Item

Coffee tea pot designed in Dublin by Richard Sawyer. Very rare and important coffee tea pot, created in the city of Dublin in Ireland, United Kingdom by the silversmith Richard Sawyer. This beautiful piece has been crafted during the reigning period of king George III (1760-1801), back in the 1801-2. It was carefully made in solid .900/.999 sterling silver with engraved organic patterns. Fitted with a handle carved in wood and a hinged lid crowned with a carved pine tree. This is a rare example of Irish silver, is fully hallmarked underneath. City: Dublin, Ireland. Style: Georgian, King George III. Year: 1801-1802 Materials: Sterling silver .925/.999 and carved wood Weight: 553.80 Grams, (355.1 Dwt). Measurements: 307 mm by 129.5 mm x 197 mm (12.05 x 5.10 x 7.75 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with British Crown marks; the mark for the city of Dublin. the maker's mark RS associated to Richard Sawyer, the mark for the assay of the .925 silver and the gothic letter E for the year of production 1801. Richard Sawyer Richard Sawyer registered his mark in 1797 as a silversmith at 2 Salus Court in Fishamble Street, Dublin Ireland. Richard Sawyer worked from Fishamble Street from 1797. Museums: A very similar piece to ours by Richard Sawyer, dated 1801-2, is currently exhibited at the The Met, Metropolitan Museum Of Art in New York city with reference 33.120.63, as a Bequest of Alphonso T. Clearwater in 1933. see figure. Condition: The overall condition of this pot is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the silver. All parts are secured in their settings.
