About the Item

A rare and highly collectible vintage coaster set designed and manufactured in Taxco, Mexico by renowned Mexican silversmith Emilia Castillo. This exceptional six-piece coaster set exemplifies the artistry and craftsmanship that established Emilia Castillo as one of the most celebrated names in Mexican decorative arts and silverwork. The set includes six circular coasters housed in the original matching coaster holder. Each coaster features a vibrant turquoise-green porcelain ground intricately inlaid with pure silver designs depicting wildlife and nature motifs, including running hares, horse heads, a coiled serpent, schooling fish, paired lizards, and birds in flight. The coaster holder and coaster rims are crafted from solid brass and richly silver plated, creating a striking contrast against the vivid porcelain surfaces. Produced in Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico, a city internationally recognized for its silver artisans and metalworking traditions, this set showcases Castillo's distinctive blend of traditional Mexican craftsmanship and modern design. The underside retains the original hallmarks reading: Emilia Castillo Mexico M.R. TO-85 Plateado The coasters retain their original felt bottoms for surface protection. Rarely encountered as a complete set, and believed to be the only example currently available on the market, this collection represents an outstanding opportunity for collectors of Mexican silver, Taxco decorative arts, Emilia Castillo designs, Los Castillo, William Spratling, Margot de Taxco, and mid-century Mexican modernism. Perfect for a sophisticated cocktail table, bar, library, office, or luxury entertaining setting. Measurements Coaster Holder Diameter: 4.50 in. Height: 1.75 in. Coasters Diameter: 3.50 in. each
