About the Item

Vintage carved wooden tray features minimal rectangular form with twin rounded handles; it was hand made in Haiti from Taverneau, also known as Caribbean Walnut or False Tamarind, a durable tropical hardwood with a golden hue. Stylistically, the tray strongly resembles Taverneau wood tray platters designed by Arthur Umanoff in his Pantalcraft studio in 1960s for Raymor. The bowl is signed with incised "Handmade in Haiti" and two original stickers on the bottom; one sticker reads "Genuine Taverneau, Alcohol Proof", and another - "Created by "RALPH" Handmade in Haiti". Ralph was a smaller American distributor of decor and home goods, operating at the same time as Raymor and Rosenthal Netter. The tray measures xx" wide without the handles, and xx" - with the handles; it is in good vintage condition with beautiful patina on the wood. The elegant, sculptural form, high-quality craftsmanship, and striking wood grain will make the tray a great gift to a collector or a design enthusiast and a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Eclectic, Mid Century Modern, Neo Deco, Arts and Crafts, Modern Heritage, Transitional, Modern Country, English Cottage, Organic Modern, Collected, or Contemporary.
