A. Kuger Sterling Silver Mounted Ostrich Egg Bowl with Buffalo Head Handles A sculptural late 20th-century ostrich egg bowl mounted in sterling silver by A. Kuger, retaining its original buffalo head handles and hand-finished silver mounts. Combining organic natural material with refined silver craftsmanship, the piece reflects the sophisticated safari-inspired decorative arts aesthetic popular during the 1980s and 1990s. The bowl is formed from a genuine polished ostrich eggshell, prized for its naturally stippled surface and warm parchment-like coloration. The shell is mounted with a twisted sterling silver rim and matching circular foot, creating an elegant contrast between the organic texture of the egg and the polished silver framework. Most distinctive are the sculptural buffalo-head handles mounted at opposing sides. Carefully modeled with expressive detail and curving horns, the mounts lend the bowl a strong architectural presence while referencing African wildlife and the romanticized safari aesthetic associated with luxury lodge interiors and modern organic design. The underside bears the impressed mark “A. Kruger © 1998” and “925,” identifying the mounts as sterling silver. The piece functions beautifully as a vide-poche, decorative centerpiece, or cabinet object and works equally well in modern or eclectic interiors.
