About the Item

A High Spirited Silver Grogger was made by Peter Ehrenthal, in the United States in 1970. Mid-20th century silver grogger made by Peter Ehrenthal. Corresponding to the joyful spirit of the Jewish holiday of Purim, this grogger depicts a whimsical scene. At the center, three figures are joined in a festive mood: a rabbi raising his hands in a dance, while on his sides are a little child and a calf sharing in his celebration. All the participants are set on the flag-shaped free-rotating border with a central silver slat, attached to the back of the rabbi in the center, fitted into the teeth of the cog affixed to the handle. The grogger's handle is shaped in a classical design with a two-part baluster stem topped with a crown cap at the top. Peter Ehrenthal was a skilled silversmith and the owner of Moriah Galleries in New York, one of the earliest and most important Judaica galleries in the world. Signed Moriah at the back of the rabbi in the center.

A Silver Modern Dreidel, 20th Century

A Silver Modern Dreidel, 20th Century

Located in New York, NY

A Silver Modern Dreidel made in the 20th Century. This Silver modern Dreidel is uncommonly made. The sides of the dreidel are square and it has the Hebrew letters Nun, Gimmel, Hey, and Shin prominently displayed but that's where the commonality stops. The top handle is long and cylindrical and the bottom point where the dreidel spins is very similar. We have seen this design on some bone dreidels. The top is slightly tilted upwards and has designs that resemble spherical beads encircled by filigree which are common on some Israeli Kiddush goblets. Even the letters which are the smae as most dreidels yet have unique designs. The Gimmel is crowned with an eight-branch Menorah, the Nun is placed within an oil pourer...
