About the Item

A beautifully modeled antique Royal Bayreuth Bavaria porcelain plate in the form of a richly textured green cabbage leaf, produced in Germany during the early twentieth century. Marked to the underside, this piece belongs to the celebrated naturalistic tradition for which Royal Bayreuth became especially admired, transforming fruits, vegetables, leaves, animals, and domestic motifs into refined yet playful porcelain table objects. Royal Bayreuth is documented as a Bavarian porcelain maker, and comparable early twentieth-century figural pieces are described as hand-painted hard-paste porcelain rather than majolica. The plate is deeply molded with raised veining, curled edges, and an organic leaf surface that gives it remarkable sculptural presence. Its vivid green glaze, with subtle tonal variation from bright leaf green to deeper shaded areas, emphasizes the naturalistic modeling and creates a lively sense of movement across the form. Although whimsical in subject, the piece retains the delicacy and refinement associated with Bavarian porcelain, making it equally appealing as a functional serving plate or as a decorative object. Royal Bayreuth’s vegetable and fruit-form porcelain pieces are among the factory’s most recognizable and collectible designs. This green leaf plate pairs beautifully with Royal Bayreuth tomato ware, asparagus pieces, figural creamers, covered sugars, and other naturalistic porcelain from the same period. It also works wonderfully within collections of antique European ceramics, botanical tableware, country house objects, and trompe-l’oeil porcelain. Produced circa 1900–1925, the plate reflects the early twentieth-century fascination with nature-inspired dining pieces, where the garden and table were brought together through imaginative ceramic design. Displayed on a wall, in a cabinet, on open shelving, or incorporated into a layered table setting, it brings color, texture, and historic charm to the room. Presented in antique condition consistent with age and use, with minor wear and glaze variation appropriate to a porcelain piece of this period. A charming and collectible example of Royal Bayreuth Bavaria naturalistic porcelain, with strong decorative appeal and wonderful character.
