About the Item

During this period, it was not only important for the Upper Class to show off their imported Tea from India or Ceylon, in a Tea Caddy that could lock, but also to keep it safe from possibly thieving servants. Original locks are included. Fitted Interior: The hinged, sarcophagus-shaped lid opens to reveal a compartment that typically holds removable caddies for different tea blends and reservoirs for mixing. Structure: This specific piece features a pedestal base with a carved, fluted column supported by a tripod or quadruped scrolling base. History: The term "teapoy" derives from the Hindi word for "three-legged," and these tables were popular in England during the Regency and Victorian periods for storing tea, which was a valuable commodity.
