About the Item

On offer is that rarity, a Staffordshire-style tureen which still retains its original lid, serving spoon and stand. Each piece displays exuberant foliage framing idealized architectural scenes, rural surroundings and vistas, all applied by the transferware technique developed in 18th-century England. This set was made in earthenware pottery, typical of 19th-century tableware coming from England’s Staffordshire region. It’s a material that compared to stoneware or porcelain is more porous and coarser, but for today’s relaxed lifestyles, delightfully less formal.
