About the Item

This is a large vintage silver-plated Monteith punch bowl dating from the late 20th Century. The punch bowl can also double as an excellent wine cooler for 5 or 6 bottles. It is truly magnificent and will attract the maximum amount of attention from all of your guests. The quality and craftsmanship are superb. Add a touch of style to your next party with this stunning punch bowl. Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation. Dimensions in cm: Height 39 cm x Width 53 cm x Depth 47 cm Dimensions in inches: Height 1 foot, 3 inches x Width 1 foot, 9 inches x Depth 1 foot, 6 inches Monteiths are of a similar design to punch bowls. They were conceived in England as a ‘variation on a theme’. Allegedly, they were designed by a gentleman called Monteith, who was renowned for wearing a scalloped coat. Monteiths were originally made with a shaped or notched upper rim, (of similar design to their namesake’s coat). This emarginated rim allowed a punch ladle, tall glasses and a lemon strainer to be held by the bowl. Later, this became a removable ’crown’, allowing the bowl to be used as a punch bowl.
