A wonderful and rare/scarce early work by famed Los Angeles (Echo Park), California-based artist Peter Shire who was a founding member (along with Italian designer Ettore Sottsass and others) of The Memphis Group, an international design movement that came out of Italy during the 1980s (1980-1988), and specialized in postmodern furniture, lighting, fabrics, carpets, ceramics, glass, and metal objects. This beautifully decorated and glazed honey pot is signed (with Shire's customary "Made in Echo Park" stamp with sun symbol)and dated (1978 A.D.) by Shire on the base. These early works are becoming quite rare and scarce - especially his unique and one-of-a-kind splatter works. Would be a great addition to any post-modern ceramic or California Pottery collection or admirers of the artist's work or eye-catching stand-alone piece in about any setting. A similar piece can be found in the Brooklyn Museum, in New York. Shire's work can be found in many prominent collections and museums including: Archer M.
