About the Item

Unique set of four abstract glazed ceramic works, created in France in 2020. Each individually hand-shaped piece presents a slightly irregular square form with gently raised and subtly undulating edges, emphasizing the handmade nature of the work. The four pieces are conceived as a coherent ensemble while retaining their own distinct composition and surface character. Their richly layered surfaces combine deep cobalt and ultramarine blues with smoky grey, earthy brown, black, and pale mineral tones. Applied through broad painterly gestures, translucent washes, and denser passages of glaze, the colours overlap and merge across the ceramic surface, creating compositions that evoke abstract landscapes, fragments of sky, water, stone, and shifting horizons. Variations in texture, opacity, and firing effects give each piece exceptional depth. Glossy areas alternate with matte and granular passages, while visible traces of brushing, layering, and natural kiln reactions reinforce the individuality of every work. The irregular contours and subtle variations from one piece to another highlight the unique, handcrafted character of the ensemble. At the intersection of painting and ceramics, these four works transform the ceramic surface into a pictorial field. Their restrained square format contrasts with the freedom of the gesture and the intensity of the blue palette, giving the ensemble a strong yet meditative presence.
