A beautiful and quite engaging gorgeously glazed Chawan tea bowl by famed Japanese Hawaiian American pottery master Toshiko Takaezu. The fired bowl features a Tenmoku glaze with an array of shifting colorful iridescent tones and colors (reds, oranges, browns, etc...). The glaze is quite stunning on this piece. It is a unique and one-of-a-kind work. Caught our eye immediately.
The bowl is signed on the base with her traditional "TT" mark/ monogram.
The bowl is from a Hawaiin collection (where Toshiko lived). The previous owner acquired the bowl directly from Toshiko.
A rare and exceptional piece. This work has a great feel to it. Very Wabi-Sabi. Would be a great addition to any collectors of Toshiko's work or other Mid-Century Modern/Hawaiian art potters or an eye-catching stand-alone work in about any setting. Gorgeous overall with a very Wabi-sabi feel and abstract design.
Takaezu was designated a living treasure in Hawaii in 1987.
