About the Item

Vintage Polish wool wall tapestry, produced during the 1970s. The handwoven textile depicts a stylized village scene with houses, figures and trees arranged in a naive folk art composition. Executed in wool with a textured woven surface and warm earthy colors including brown, ochre, green and black. The graphic composition and simplified forms reflect the folk-inspired textile tradition found in Central and Eastern European decorative arts during the mid-20th century. This type of woven wall hanging was commonly produced in small workshops and studio weaving cooperatives, making surviving examples increasingly collectible among vintage textile and folk art collectors. The tapestry works well as a decorative wall hanging in Scandinavian, rustic or mid-century interiors. Fringed lower edge. Good vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age.
