About the Item

In this listing you will find an impressive French Empire Revival chandelier in gilt bronze and genuine malachite, dating from the late 19th century, circa 1880–1900. This monumental six-light chandelier is distinguished by its richly cast gilt bronze framework and finely executed malachite-clad body. A dramatic ring of imperial eagles, rendered with remarkable sculptural detail, encircles the fixture and supports the light fittings. Elegant laurel swags, acanthus ornament, decorative chains, and an acorn-form finial further reinforce the strong Neoclassical and First Empire influences that inspired its design. The body is adorned with genuine malachite veneer, displaying the stone's naturally occurring bands and vibrant shades of emerald and deep green. The use of malachite, a material associated with luxury interiors and aristocratic decoration throughout the 19th century, elevates the chandelier beyond the ordinary and gives it exceptional visual presence. Executed in gilt bronze of substantial quality, the chandelier exhibits the refined casting and chasing associated with high-end French decorative arts of the period.
