About the Item

An exquisite antique French Louis XVI style chandelier crafted in silvered bronze and cut rock crystal. The chandelier is structured with a central stem from which twelve scrolling arms extend in two tiers, each terminating in a candle-form light with circular drip pans. The bronze arms are richly decorated with foliate and acanthus leaf motifs, deeply chased to highlight the scrolling contours. Large faceted rock crystal pendalogues of various forms, including elongated drops, teardrops, and lozenges, are suspended from the branches, while strings of faceted crystal beads connect each arm in swags. A prominent acorn-form finial centers the underside of the chandelier, complementing the elaborate decoration above. The body is cast in silvered bronze, the surfaces finished with detailed chasing characteristic of Louis XVI's decorative style. The scrollwork arms are further enhanced by rosettes and leaf collars, while the drip pans feature gadrooned and acanthus reliefs. The cut rock crystal elements are precisely faceted, their arrangement structured to emphasize symmetry, with the largest pendants hanging from the lower arms and central shaft. The upper section supports a corona of crystal drops, echoing the form of the lower tier. This chandelier follows the French Louis XVI style, distinguished by symmetrical form, neoclassical ornament, and refined decorative detailing.
