Chandelier "Algae" - Nina Edwards Anker Dimensions: H 149.86 cm x Dm 60.96 cm, customizable Materials: Algae Sheets (chlorophyta), LED bulbs, customized chords/brass tubing and canopy Algae is molded into translucent cylindrical lamp shades that glow from the interior. A versatile product, the algae shades can be grouped in different ways to form chandeliers; they can also function on their own as table lamps or sconces. The algae lights can be custom made in a variety of shapes and finishes, including brass, according to individual preference. Established in 2006 by Nina Edwards Anker, nea studio focuses its work in architecture, interiors, landscape, furniture and product design. The award-winning practice operates in an environment in which project management and implementation takes place in parallel with model-making, prototyping and experimentation with ideas, materials, and manufacturing processes. With a focus on sustainable design, the office maintains a cross-disciplinary nature where research and sharing ideas is an essential part of work philosophy. Nina Edwards Anker is an architect, designer and writer whose teaching interests revolve around sustainable design. Edwards Anker’s contemporary design works have been widely published and exhibited. Edwards Anker has designed solar lights and furniture for exhibitions at the 3D Print Show and ICFF in Manhattan, Copenhagen, Cologne, Miami and Milan Furniture Fairs. The designer’s Landscape Sofa won the 2015 Good Design Award Chicago Atheneum Museum of Architecture and Design, and her 3D printed solar Latitude Lights won the A’Design Award in 2017. Edwards Anker was awarded her doctorate in 2016 from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. Her doctoral thesis bridges phenomenological theory and solar design. Edwards Anker continues to design, research, develop and exhibit solar lights and furniture while practicing architecture and design at New Lab in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
