About the Item

Elegant early 20th-century Italian Florentine chandelier, dating from circa 1920, beautifully crafted in carved and turned wood with a warm gilt finish and subtle deep red polychrome accents. The chandelier features six gracefully curved arms arranged around a richly detailed central body. Each arm terminates in a carved foliate-form candle cup, while the tall central stem is composed of a series of finely shaped and turned decorative elements. The restrained red detailing within the carved grooves creates a particularly attractive contrast with the aged gold surface. An especially interesting detail is the survival of the old wooden socket holders and traditional construction, visible beneath the candle sleeves. Together with the old slotted screws, metal fittings and naturally aged surface, these details support an early 20th-century date. The original gilt surface has developed a beautiful warm patina with areas of wear, small losses and traces of age that give the chandelier considerable character. The proportions are elegant and well balanced, making it suitable for both classical and more contemporary interiors. The chandelier has six lights and is shown with flame-shaped bulbs. This allows the electrical system to be adapted to the standards of the buyer’s country.
