About the Item

An outstanding French 19th century Louis XV st. gilt metal and crystal chandelier attributed to Maison Bagues. The six arm chandelier is centered by a beautiful solid crystal bottom ball below superb gilt metal acanthus leaves amidst a stunning array of cut crystal pendants and a fine wrap around beaded band. Each elegantly curved arm is adorned with kite shaped and tear drop shaped crystal pendants leading to charming floral bobeches. At the center are exceptional scrolled foliate designs and large acanthus leaves centering elegant curved support with stunning branches seeming growing upwards with lovely finely detailed frosted crystal leaves with delicately etched designs. The cage displays three curved elements leading up to the charming spray with additional elegant crystal pendants and the original chain and canopy. Maison Bagues Founded in Auvergne, France, in 1840 by Nicolas Baguès, the company originally specialized in the creation of liturgical bronzes. Thanks to Baguès’ expansion into bronze lighting and the popularization of electricity, the business quickly found success. At the turn of the century, their chandeliers captured international interest, and soon Baguès began exporting to London, New York, Rome, Brussels, and Cairo. The company is best known for introducing to the world their now signature collections of finely crafted iron, gilt, and crystal chandeliers and wall sconces Parrots & Foliage. * Shades are shown for display purposes only.
