About the Item

An exceptional French gilt bronze chandelier, circa 1900, combining a refined Louis XVI Revival structure with rare sculptural Art Nouveau glass shades. The elegant neoclassical frame is finely cast, with beautifully aged gilding and balanced proportions. The gracefully extending arms create a harmonious and architectural composition, typical of high-quality French craftsmanship. The standout feature is the remarkable suite of glass shades, each formed as a flowing, organic leaf. Their sculptural quality is rarely encountered and creates a striking contrast with the structured bronze framework, adding movement and softness to the overall design. When illuminated, the chandelier produces a warm, atmospheric glow, with the glass diffusing the light and the gilt bronze reflecting it beautifully. The result is a refined and highly decorative presence. Examples retaining a complete set of original sculptural glass shades are increasingly rare on the market. All shades are original and form a cohesive ensemble. Presented in very good antique condition, with a beautiful patina and minor wear consistent with age. Structurally sound and fitted with period-appropriate bayonet sockets; rewiring to modern standards is recommended. Total height including chain: 140 cm. A second matching example is available upon request. All glass shades are original and form a complete and cohesive ensemble Pieces of this quality and completeness are increasingly difficult to find on the market. The casting remains crisp and well-defined throughout. All glass shades are present; some show minor edge wear consistent with age.The sculptural shades are in very good condition, with only minor surface wear and slight irregularities consistent with hand-formed glass of the period. The structure is stable and sound, with no visible structural issues. Light wear to the fittings in line with age. Fitted with period-appropriate bayonet sockets. Rewiring to modern standards is recommended for installation and should be carried out in accordance with local requirements.
