About the Item

A rare German figural pendant light featuring a carved wooden railway official suspended beneath antlers, executed in the traditional Lustermannchen (Lüsterweibchen) style. This striking German Lüstermännchen (Lüsterweibchen) pendant light features a finely carved and hand-painted wooden figure of a railway official, suspended beneath an impressive set of antlers and accented with metal fittings. Produced circa the 1930s, the piece exemplifies the expressive figural lighting tradition associated with Alpine and Central European interiors. The sculptural figure is rendered with notable character and craftsmanship, capturing the uniformed railway official in a dynamic pose. The carved wood retains its original painted surface, enhanced by natural patina that has developed over time, lending the piece warmth and authenticity. The antlers serve both as a dramatic visual element and as structural arms supporting the light sources below. Chains and metal components show a consistent patinated finish, in keeping with the overall age and aesthetic. Lustermannchen lights of this scale and figural complexity are increasingly rare, particularly examples with explicit occupational iconography such as railway personnel.
