About the Item

Otto Müller 'P3' Bauhaus Pendant for Sistrah / Megaphos, Germany, 1931. This is a wonderful and highly original Bauhaus pendant lamp by designer Otto Müller. Designed in 1931, this series of lamps was designed to compete with the Danish PH-lamps by Poul Henningsen. This one - with a 30 cm glass shade - is the 'P3'. The name ‘Sistrah’ derives from the German phrase, “sie strahlt hell” - which translates as “she shines brightly”. Outside Germany, the name Megaphos was used. An ingenious design, this lamp combines several glass parts - both transparant and opaline - to create a light that is pleasant and, very important, not blinding or dazzling. A great and quintessential Bauhaus design. This particular pendant comes in a very good and highly original condition with no faults.

Poul Henningsen 'PH 4½-4' Glass Pendant for Louis Poulsen

By Poul Henningsen

Located in Tilburg, NL

Poul Henningsen 'PH 4½-4' glass pendant for Louis Poulsen. Poul Henningsen designed the three-shade system back in 1925-1926. The first lights using the system were designed by PH in cooperation with Louis Poulsen for an exhibition in Paris. This partnership continued up until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, PH sought to create glare-free light, direct light where it was most needed, and create soft shadows, using incandescent bulbs as a light source. The PH 4½-4 Glass Pendant is a member of the three-shade family which numbers 30 lights today, including three for outdoor use. Thus PH did not just design a light, but an entire system – around a thousand different models have been produced over the years. This wide selection consisted of table, floor and wall lamps, as well as a number of different chandeliers...

Poul Henningsen PH5 Mini Pendant in Brass for Louis Poulsen

Poul Henningsen PH5 Mini Pendant in Brass for Louis Poulsen

By Poul Henningsen, Louis Poulsen

Located in Tilburg, NL

Poul Henningsen PH5 mini pendant for Louis Poulsen. Designed 1958, Mini in 2017. New, current production. Poul Henningsen developed the PH 5 in 1958 in response to constant changes made to the shape and size of incandescent bulbs by bulb manufacturers, naming it after the size of the pendant’s main shade, which is 50 cm in diameter. When the lamp was introduced, he wrote, typically daringly, about how he had lost faith that the manufacturers of incandescent light bulbs would ever learn to consider common sense or have the consumer’s best interest at heart: “I have accepted fate, and with Louis Poulsen's permission I have designed a PH fixture, which can be used with any kind of light source, Christmas lights and 100 W metal filament bulbs. Although a fluorescent tube would be too much to ask in the existing form!” At the time, now one knew that the PH 5 would become synonymous with the PH light...
