About the Item

A highly uncommon Richard Barr "Assemblage," torch cut iron floor lamp for the Laurel Lamp Company. This lamp design dates from 1964 and is only the third of its type I have seen in over 25 years. This highly sculptural design is most certainly one of Laurel Lamp Company's most accomplished offerings. I have personally owned this lamp since the late 1990s having purchased it from an elderly decorator in the Red Bank, NJ area who told me it came out of the House of Good Taste at the 1964 New York Worlds Fair. I have yet to find documentation proving his statement but think it's worthwhile mentioning. What is also particularly interesting is the old-style red and white Laurel Lamp Co. label that is specifically dated to 1964. The lamp features the original Laurel Lamp Co. lampshade that was unique to Barr's "Assemblage" lamp collection and features a bronze-toned band at the top that further echoes the brutalist motif of the lamp body. The original lampshade measures 20.25 inches high and 16.5 inches diameter.
