About the Item

A rare brass floor lamp by Italian artist and designer Riccardo Scarpa (1905–1999). The stem rises in slender, stacked segments, lifted lightly on a tripod base. The brass retains its original patina—warm, lived-in, and subtly luminous—while above, a wide tapered shade diffuses a soft, ambient glow. Scarpa, born in Venice and trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts under De Loto and Carlo Lorenzetti, left for Paris in 1928, where he developed a practice that moved fluidly between sculpture and functional object. Celebrated for his work in stone, bronze, and granite—and awarded the 1974 Gold Medal by the Société des Artistes Français—he also produced a rare, coveted body of furniture and lighting. This lamp is a testament to that legacy: a sculptor’s understanding of weight, tension, and proportion expressed through light. A scarce functional work by Scarpa, its stance is elegant and poised—well suited for a living room, study, or reading corner. Condition: Great vintage condition with surface wear and patina consistent with age. Brass shows natural tonal variation throughout. Professionally rewired by our team of restorationists with a new socket, plug, and switch. Accepts one E12 base light bulb. Maker’s mark present along the underside.
