About the Item

Pair of Antique Wrought Iron Torcheres, 19th Century Design attributed to Thorvald Bindesbøll (1896–1908) & Vilhelm Bissen (1836–1913) An impressive and decorative pair of tall wrought iron torcheres (height: 155 cm), inspired by classical antiquity and crafted in Denmark in the late 19th century. Each torchere features a fluted shaft rising from a tripod base with stylized animal paw feet, interspersed with finely detailed foliate ornamentation. The upper section, just below the candle holder, is adorned with classical motifs such as acanthus leaves and a beaded trim. The design is strongly influenced by archaeological discoveries from Pompeii and reflects the neoclassical revival that Bindesbøll and Bissen helped shape in late 19th-century Danish design. Measurements H: 155 Dia: 46 / 4 cm Carefully and respectfully restored to preserve the original patina. Originally made for candles, they can be easily converted into electric floor lamps if desired. Sold as a pair
