About the Item

René-Jean Caillette B4 floor lamp for Disderot. This large floor lamp was originally designed by Caillette in 1955 as an extension of the wall lamp B3. Made of a thin brass tube and round base in solid wood, the B4 floor lamp is ideal next to a sofa, as a reading lamp or as ambient lighting. This newly produced numbered edition with an authentication certificate is made in France by Disderot with many of the same small-scale manufacturing techniques and craftsmanship as the original run. Price is per item. Available in unlimited quantities. Born in 1919, Caillette's perfect mastery of cabinetmaking and artistic skills led him to the School of Applied Arts, from where he graduated in 1937 to begin what became a dazzling career. He was a member of the most influential group of designers, won many prestigious prizes and created a number of major pieces of furniture, which are now exhibited in museums throughout the world. He was a lecturer for 25 years and trained some of the best designers of today. The simplicity of his drawings is not that of ascetic minimalism, but the product of an ethic that knows how to combine beauty with the utmost discretion.
