About the Item

A highly sculptural floor lamp, model E1770, designed by the celebrated Danish lighting designer Svend Aage Holm Sørensen for the Swedish manufacturer ASEA during the 1950s. Defined by its elegant, angular wire frame and distinctive conical shade, the design perfectly captures Holm Sørensen’s ability to combine playful sculptural forms with refined Scandinavian functionality. The lamp retains its original geometric silhouette and is a striking example of mid-century Nordic lighting design. This particular example has been professionally rewired with a new twisted textile cord, inline switch and European plug, and is in fully working condition. The metal frame and shade have been later overpainted in a soft pale grey-green tone, rather than retaining their original factory finish. The repaint is neatly executed and suits the lamp well, although it should be regarded as a later alteration. Minor signs of age and wear remain consistent with its vintage character. The shade is stamped ASEA with model number E1770, confirming its authenticity. A beautifully balanced and uncommon Scandinavian floor lamp that works equally well as a reading lamp or as a sculptural statement piece. Measurements: H 132 x W 39 x D 37 x Ø (shade) 19 cm
